Since 2021, we’ve been committed to reducing our environmental impact while delivering unforgettable skating experiences. By applying eco-conscious practices, we’ve reduced emissions, restored natural environments, and engaged our community in sustainability efforts. Here’s what we’ve accomplished so far:
Reducing Emissions and Transitioning to Cleaner Energy
Our sustainability journey started with a focus on reducing our diesel usage. In 2021, we transitioned one of our rinks to operate entirely on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), a sustainable alternative to diesel. This shift marked a major first step in our commitment to cleaner, greener operations.
Over the past few years, we’ve continued to replace diesel generators with more sustainable power sources, including mains power and responsibly sourced HVO. By 2023, all our rinks were operating on these cleaner energy alternatives. This transition has significantly reduced our emissions, allowing us to operate more efficiently while being kinder to the environment.
Environmental Restoration Through Tree Planting
We understand that reducing emissions is just one part of the equation. To improve our environmental impact even further, we contributed to the restoration of natural habitats. Since 2021, we have planted 130 trees across the UK, directly helping to rebuild ecosystems, improve air quality, and combat deforestation. These tree-planting efforts are just the beginning, as we aim to expand our environmental restoration projects in the coming years.
Partnering for a Greener Future
In 2023, we partnered with Everclime, a sustainability platform dedicated to supporting projects that make a real, measurable difference. Through this partnership, we’ve been able to offset over 448 tonnes of CO2 emissions—the equivalent of planting nearly 7,500 trees!
Everclime doesn’t just help us achieve our sustainability goals; it also provides our skaters with a unique opportunity to engage with the process. Skaters can access Everclime’s platform to view evidence of our environmental impact, making sustainability tangible and transparent. Together, we are creating a community that actively participates in shaping a greener future.
Looking Ahead: Long-Term Impact Projects
As we look to the future, our sustainability efforts are becoming even more ambitious. In 2024, we will be supporting two major environmental projects through the ticket purchases of our skaters.
The first is a long-term peatland protection initiative in Swarthghyll, located in the Yorkshire Dales. Peatlands play a crucial role in capturing carbon and maintaining biodiversity, making their preservation vital in the fight against climate change.
We are also supporting the Dumyat Impact Project in Stirling, Scotland, which focuses on restoring wildflower meadows and wetlands. These ecosystems are vital for supporting pollinators like bees and butterflies, as well as birds, and their restoration will bring wildlife back to flourishing natural habitats.
Glide into Sustainability with Us
We believe that sustainability is not just a goal—it’s a responsibility. We are proud of the progress we’ve made so far, from transitioning to greener energy sources to funding impactful environmental projects. But this is only the beginning. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to reducing our carbon footprint and working towards a more sustainable future for everyone.
When you skate with us, you’re part of this mission. By simply purchasing a ticket or skating at one of our rinks, you’re not only enjoying a great experience—you’re actively contributing to the protection of our planet.
Together, we can make a lasting difference.
